Course Content

This is a course in the community spaces series

This session covered three areas that affect community spaces.

14:00  Planning for the longer term When you're managing a building, you hold it in trust and your planning should take into account how you will keep the building, and it's place in the community, ticking over in the longer term. These tips and techniques will help your committee to build a clear vision for the future.

14:45 Having a reserves policy Part of long term planning can be building up the reserves for the larger jobs that will need doing in 5,10,15 years' time. This session looks at ways you can do this and how that is presented in a policy so that funders don't discount you as having too much money. It will help you to create a clear plan and policy.

15:30 Changing from a Trust to a CIO Are you struggling with an old-style trust deed or governing document? Is it unclear what powers the trustees have and what decisions they can make? Many village halls and community spaces are considering changing to the new form of charity; a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). Here we will review the pros and cons of doing so and direct you to the exact information you need. We will talk through the ACRE model constitution which is suitable for use by most village halls and community spaces.

After the event, we will post the recordings  of the presentations. Attendees will have access to free ACRE information sheets and other  resources.
